In the first picture above you will see my dad. The place where he lives had a door decorating contest. And he had a great idea. He asked the nearby grandkids to come decorate. Which they did this past Sunday. The contest was judged by the local police department on Tuesday and his door won for the category “Most Festive.” The kids and their mommy and daddy did a great job!
What you can’t quite see in the photo are the handprints. At the top of the door are the words I AM. Each family member traced their hand and wrote on it “thankful for…” It was great to see what each person wrote. But my favorite by far was my dad’s when he wrote he’s thankful for family nearby.
That statement is huge since he moved in July from South Florida to Clermont to be close to family. It wasn’t a move he necessarily wanted to make as he had lived on the beach in his beautiful condo with my mom since 2000. But with my mom’s death and his head injury, it was a move that made sense. And we agree.
With hubby and me only 4.5 miles away we see him every week; sometimes we see him multiple times a week. And we all love it.
Often, we question the things that happen in our lives. We don’t understand the “why” behind what occurs. But if we continue trusting our Lord and resting in Him, we can be assured He knows what He’s doing and that His plans for our lives are perfect.
Today, I’m rejoicing not in Dad winning a door decorating contest but in our wonderful Lord who continues to work the pieces of our lives together in such beautiful ways.
If you are feeling discouraged my friend, hang in there. God isn’t finished. Sometimes a masterpiece takes a very long time to complete. But when finished…it’s perfect!
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)
