Rainy days and Mondays don’t get this gal down!

A very rare occurrence in Orlando today: all day rain. I can still count on one hand the number of times we’ve had all-day rain since moving here 11 years ago. (Okay, maybe I can count on two hands.) What used to be a very common thing in New Jersey is something Floridians are just not used to. But rainy days and Mondays don’t get this gal down, no sir. I find them quite enjoyable. Especially today.

Konnor woke up with a temperature and the sniffles. Instead of my usual always-on-the-go toddler grandson, I got to enjoy a snuggly, mellow child who was quite content to be napping or on my lap most of the day. And I loved every minute of it!

The big thrill of the day was him using the digital ear thermometer. Despite having a 100.6 temp, he heard me declare mine at 98 so throughout the day he would put the thermometer in his ear, wait for the beep, and announce “98, Mimi, 98.”

In keeping with my new theme of having arts & crafts each week, we did some stamping today with a big letter K and some doggie stamps. While he definitely got the idea, it didn’t hold his attention nearly as much as playing with the colorful pom poms. Mostly we sorted them into colors, then did some counting. Later we used spoons and transferred them to bowls. Konnor played with these little puffs for an hour. Loved, loved, loved them. So for $1.99, less on sale, you may want to pick some up for your little ones – hours of fun and easy clean-up.

Also want to be sure to mention Christina Ferrare’s Big Bowl of Love on the new OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). She has a half-hour show every weekday morning and prepares very easy recipes. I’ve made two now and they’re wonderful. Tonight was a Bolognese sauce we served on top of fettuccini. It was so delicious I’ll definitely be making it again.
